What happened in season 3?

Warning: Contains spoilers from The Bay season 3

Episode 1

The Bay season three brings the audience a brand new story.

New to town, DS Jenn Townsend is immediately thrown into the deep end, when a body is found in the bay on her first day in the job.

She must get under the skin of a grieving and complicated family if she has any chance of solving the premature death of an aspiring young boxer.

While she’s eager to give the family answers, she also needs to prove herself as the team’s newest recruit.

The pressure is multiplied when her new blended family struggles to settle in Morecambe.

This makes her think that a fresh start might not be as simple as moving to a different town.

Episode 2

An obstreperous suspect causes difficulties for the team, until Jenn identifies a key witness who is able to unlock the answers they need.

Meanwhile, a new lead causes Jenn’s personal and professional worlds to collide, putting enormous pressure on her unsettled new family.

For Manning too, juggling work and his complicated family situation proves challenging.

At the Rahman house, emotions are running high, especially when a false alibi casts doubt on the honesty of the grieving family.

A frustrating turn in the case causes tensions to rise within the community, leading to an unexpected altercation.

Episode 3

Several major developments in the case point the team towards suspects in surprising places, whilst the results of the toxicology report shed new light on Saif’s character.

Encouraged by Chris, Erin offers an olive branch to Conor, but a misunderstanding leaves him more miserable than ever in his new home.

Jenn, on the other hand, seems to be finding her feet in her new job after a team bonding session, until the situation at home wrongfoots her again.

It looks as though relations in the Rahman house are improving, until Adnan gets caught up in a situation with devastating consequences.

Episode 4

It’s the day of Saif’s funeral, and as Jenn watches closely for any suspicious behaviour, divisions within the Rahman household widen.

Adnan is anxious about the repercussions of last night’s incident, but Jenn’s attempts to help are overshadowed by Mariam’s reaction to events at the funeral.

Back at the station, Clarkie’s investigation leads to a significant breakthrough about a possible motive for Saif’s murder.

But before Jenn can investigate further, some shocking personal news throws her off course.

Episode 5

Shazia’s explosive revelation threatens to destroy the Rahman family, but Mariam sees an opportunity to try and turn her life around.

Adnan exonerates a suspect at enormous personal cost to himself, which grinds the police investigation to a halt until a vital clue offers a glimmer of hope.

Meanwhile, Jenn’s personal crisis deepens as the unexpected visit of her ex-husband leads to further tension with Chris and the kids.

With her relationship with Mariam hanging in the balance, Jenn breaks down and confesses to Karen what happened back in Manchester.

Episode 6

In the finale, DS Jenn managed to nab the killers of Saif Rahman.

The detective questioned Ritchie and his girlfriend Shirin in the final episode, with the Ritchie lying and casting doubt on his alibi.

Police arrested Ritchie who in the interrogation room did not realise the detectives knew he wasn’t alone when Saif was killed.

They worked out Kyle landed the blow that killed him after Shirin had led him to the confrontation that would end his life behind the boxing gym.

Ritchie walked away from the fight between the men and did not see that when Saif recovered, he called Kyle a joke which led the lad to bludgeon him to death.

Who is in the cast of The Bay season 3?

Following leading lady Morven Christie’s exit from the show, ITV brought in actress Marsha Thomason as the new lead in season 3.

ITV have revealed she will reprise her role of DS Jenn Townsend, Morecambe CID’s Family Liaison in the fourth series.

Series regulars, Daniel Ryan, Erin Shanagher, Thomas Law and Andrew Dowbiggin will also returned.

The show normally has a whole host of famous guest stars, but ITV have not revealed any further casting news at this point.
