KATE Middleton and Prince William’s Christmas plans have been ruined as new coronavirus restrictions came into force overnight.
Like millions of other families across the country, the Cambridges have had to cancel their festive fun.
The Daily Mail today reported the couple had been planning to travel to the Middletons’ home in Bucklebury, Berkshire, for Christmas.
Then when Berkshire was put into Tier 3, Kate and Wills reportedly offered to host the festive celebrations at their home in Anmer Hall in Norfolk.
But now Berkshire has also been moved into Tier 4 – meaning the Middletons have had to cancel their plans.
It will be a blow with the family sure to have been keen to come together, particularly as it was revealed Pippa Middleton is currently pregnant with her second child.
Under Tier 4 restrictions, there are no Christmas bubbles, while no overnight stays outside the home are permitted.
A travel ban has also been introduced, with no exit or entry from the lockdown Tier.
It means the Cambridges will celebrate December 25 as a family of five with George, seven, Charlotte, five and Louis, two.
The couple had reportedly already left Kensington Palace last week – heading to Anmer Hall in Norfolk before the Tier 4 restrictions were announced.
It will be a different Christmas for the royals this year, with the Queen this month confirming she will spend Christmas with Prince Philip at Windsor Castle for the first time in 33 years.
Her Majesty, 94, usually spends the festive season with her whole family at Sandringham but her kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren make up 10 separate households.
But Buckingham Palace instead said she would enjoy the day at Windsor – in what will be the first Christmas away from Sandringham since 1987.
