Shadow Communities Secretary Lisa Nandy has told Sir Keir Starmer Labour was focusing too much on the parties

MPs will be sent back to their constituencies to campaign ahead of next week’s local elections — which Downing Street hopes will hamper any Westminster plots.

Tory rebels warned the PM they may try to force him out if, as feared, they lose hundreds of seats.

Yesterday, Mr Johnson hit the campaign trail in Bury and Wales amid growing calls from his own MPs to resign over the lockdown-busting parties.

Asked if he was still an asset in the elections, he said: “I’m not denying that.

“I think the greatest asset the Conservatives have are Conservative values and the way that Conservative councillors up and down the country deliver taxpayer value.

“That’s what really matters and I think that’s what people will be focused on.

“And we will be fighting for every vote right up until polling day.”

No10 has insisted the PM has not received any further fixed penalties for violating Covid laws.

Meanwhile, Shadow Communities Secretary Lisa Nandy has told Sir Keir Starmer Labour was focusing too much on the parties and should be going all out on the cost of living crisis.
