Brave Sarah Ferguson seen for first time since shock breast cancer operation as she is driven by Prince Andrew

BRAVE Sarah Ferguson has been seen for the first time since undergoing a major breast cancer operation.

The Duchess of York, 63, was spotted out for a drive with Prince Andrew today as she recovers from her stay in hospital last month.

The Duchess of York was diagnosed with cancer in May

Fergie, who is patron of the Teenage Cancer Trust, had been symptom-free before her cancer was diagnosed at a routine mammogram in May, as The Celeb Report exclusively revealed.

She underwent a procedure at King Edward VII’s Hospital in Marylebone, central London, on June 23 in which a breast was removed and reconstructed.

But this afternoon she was out and about as her ex-husband Andrew drove her through Windsor.

It is believed mum-of-two Fergie had needed round-the-clock monitoring after the anaesthetic took its toll during what friends confirmed was “successful” surgery.

It comes after Fergie revealed that walking the late Queen’s corgis is helping her recovery.

Fergie and ex-husband Prince Andrew were left the dogs when Queen Elizabeth died last year.

Two weeks ago she wrote on Instagram: “I am slowly working my way back to a healthy body post-surgery.

“The corgis and I are so excited to be taking our walks together again!

“I can’t thank my doctors, nurses and medical professionals enough.

“I encourage anyone who can to get screened.”

Meanwhile, palace insider said that plans for the family to move into nearby Frogmore Cottage, Harry and Meghan’s former home, have been “quietly shelved” for now.

A source said Fergie, who was discharged from hospital on June 25 after six days of medical care, was lucky as her cancer was caught early.

They added: “Most people usually associate breast cancer with a lump but that’s not always the case.

“A lump can be detected by the patient, but this was a ‘shadow’, which can go undetected as it’s a wider spread of cancerous cells.

“In Sarah’s case, a biopsy was taken from the shadowy area of tissue and a few days later the results came back to confirm the diagnosis — breast cancer.”
