Royal Residence Renovations

Buckingham Palace has recently advertised a key interior design job as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's former UK residence, Frogmore Cottage, undergoes a makeover. The couple handed over the keys in 2023 after relocating to California, and the property is now set to be rented out.

Job Description

The advertised position is for a Curtain Maker and Soft Furnishings Upholsterer with a year-long contract paying £28k annually. The successful applicant will be responsible for producing various soft furnishing and window dressing schemes, sourcing materials, and working on design schemes.

Requirements and Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will need to have experience in skilled craftsmanship and a keen interest in historical furnishings. They will be involved in all aspects of a project, from design to sourcing materials and constructing items. Tight deadlines and excellent time-management skills are a must, as the start date for the contract is in November.

Renovation Details

The renovations for Frogmore Cottage, which cost £2.4million and included a new heating system and wiring, were funded by taxpayers. Following the couple's move to California, the keys were handed to Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, but the new tenants did not stay long. The property is now undergoing further renovations.

Neighbours' Guidelines

Neighbours of Frogmore Cottage were given a list of "do and don't commandments" at a residents' meeting, including guidelines such as not approaching the couple, not petting their dogs, and not asking to see baby Archie. These guidelines also apply to royal staff and officials living in grace-and-favour houses.

Final Touches

Meghan and Harry's former UK residence now boasts a designer kitchen and refitted bathroom as part of the ongoing renovation process. The full cost of the overhaul remains undisclosed as it is part of a five-year repainting and repair programme.
