Beckham will go down as an all-time great England footballer

He is widely regarded as the greatest driver of all time despite narrowly missing out on his eighth world championship in dramatic fashion last weekend.

Hamilton’s knighthood has got people talking about what other sportspeople deserve the accolade.

And Terry believes his ex-England teammate Beckham – who is already an OBE – should be the next star to receive the honour.

He posted a photo of Beckham on Twitter and added the caption: “Time for this man to get his KNIGHTHOOD.”

Beckham was capped 115 times for England, scoring 17 goals in what was a sensational career playing for his country.

He went to three World Cups – scoring in each of the 1998, 2002 and 2006 tournaments.

Meanwhile at club level, he enjoyed 11 superb seasons with Manchester United’s first team.

He played 394 times under Sir Alex Ferguson, netting 85 times for the Red Devils.

He was a part of their legendary treble-winning team and claimed six Premier League titles during his time at Old Trafford.

Beckham then moved to Real Madrid for four years and was a part of their famous Galacticos side.

He scored 20 times in 155 games for the Spanish giants before leaving for the US to join up with LA Galaxy.

Spells at AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain followed before he decided to hang up his boots in 2013.

All in all he finished his club career with a superb 19 major trophies to his name.

But Beckham has also became a global star as a celebrity, largely a result of his marriage to former Spice Girls member Victoria Beckham.

England footballers to have been knighted in the past include Sir Geoff Hurst, Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Trevor Brooking and Sir Stanley Matthews.
