Balmoral Castle is a large estate house in Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, near the village of Crathie.
The estate and castle are privately owned by the royal family and are not the property of the Crown.
Every summer, the monarch visits the Balmoral estate for a break.
The royal residence has often been described as “the most beautiful place on Earth” and was often referred to as the Queen’s favourite home.
The Queen was often seen riding horses or driving her beloved Range Rover over the estate’s rugged terrain.
The Celeb Report’s royal photographer Arthur Edwards remembered asking the Queen about the estate while on a tour of India.
He asked: “Why do you always go to Balmoral? Wouldn’t you like to go somewhere else?”
The Queen replied: “Where else could I go?” Arthur then said: “You’re the Queen, you can go anywhere in the world.”
He recalled her smiling at him and saying: “But I quite like it there.”
