Fears Queen, 95, could miss Prince Philip’s memorial service as she struggles to walk – but ‘refuses to use wheelchair’

THE Queen may be forced to miss Prince Philip’s memorial service as she struggles to walk.

But Her Majesty, 95, has refused to use a wheelchair, is determined to walk for as long as possible and has been moving around Windsor Castle without a walking stick.

Her Majesty had been married to the late Duke of Edinburgh for 73 years when he died

Palace officials are drawing up detailed plans to find a way for the Queen to comfortably attend Philip’s service, the Mail on Sunday reported.

The thanksgiving service for the late Duke of Edinburgh at the end of this month had already been cut to 50 minutes.

A side door may also be deployed to save Her Majesty from walking too much if she can attend.

It comes after we told how the Monarch has been too frail to walk her beloved corgis over the last six months and may never do so again.

Royal biographer Penny Junor said: “The Queen is extraordinary.

“She has gone on with great vigour for years but we have to remember she is 95 and not superhuman.

“In other respects, she is on great form. The Queen is fantastic on Zoom calls, but I think events where she is required to walk or go up any steps are not going to be feasible any more.

“And fortunately we have the technology that means she is not going to disappear from view altogether.”

It has been hoped Prince Philip’s memorial service would let more people pay their respects to him.

His funeral last April was only attended by 30 people due to strict Covid rules. The Queen refused Boris Johnson’s offer to ease the rules for the event.

Her Majesty, who turns 96 next month, also pulled out of tomorrow’s annual Commonwealth Service due to mobility issues.

She will instead be represented by Prince Charles as she delivers a message to the Commonwealth and watches the service on TV from Windsor Castle.

A source told The Celeb Report she has not been well enough to take her beloved corgis for a walk since she spent a night in hospital last October.

They said: “The Queen usually turns to her beloved corgis in time of crisis and stress and took them out almost every day after Philip fell ill and then died last year.

“They are an enormous source of solace, so it is a real shame.”

She has also stopped riding horses after her health scare last year and followed doctor’s advice to give up booze.

A senior royal source said: “Dogs remain very much part of Windsor life.”
