GOOD Morning Britain’s Richard Madeley has come under fire for telling viewers to ignore Platinum Jubilee party rules.
The broadcaster, 66, and Charlotte Hawkins discussed viewers’ Bank holiday plans to celebrate the Queen’s 70 years on the throne.
Some noted that they’d been warned against holding street parties without prior approval, leading Richard to brand local council workers bound by red tape ‘jobsworths’.
He said: “I just think if people want to have a party they should go ahead and have a party and worry about the fallout later.”
This riled some viewers who felt it showed a disregard for authority and others.
One wrote on Twitter: “I watch (very briefly) Richard Madeley on GMB urging people to ignore the council and block roads for jubilee parties. Only the other week he agreed the blocking bridges and oil depots should be illegal and those responsible be punished!”

A second posted: “Madeley calling council workers ‘jobsworths’ not letting a Jubilee event happen because of paperwork etc is disrespectful to people enforcing the rules, because ignoring them could mean disciplinary & losing job! If a form isn’t needed for 1 event, why’s it needed at all?”
A third said: “Watching the privileged presenters on GMB talking about the jubilee weekend and the street parties people are starving in this country and they think this is a good idea as it was pointed out 55 million people wont be celebrating and they laughed this is what is wrong in UK.”
For the most part, small gatherings will be allowed to go ahead without prior warning, however, larger parties that wil lresult in a road closure need council permission.
Planned parties near man and busy roads might find it more difficult to get the green light than quiet residential areas.
