GOOD Morning Britain viewers were left in hysterics as 101-year-old “legend” Edna appeared on the show for a birthday party.
Pensioner Edna Clayton had spent her 100th birthday alone during the UK lockdown last year – and missed out on her card from the Queen.
Good Morning Britain planned to surprise Edna with a party – including more than 30,000 cards she had received from her adoring fans up and down the UK.
Hector House Care Home, where Edna is a resident, had secretly planned the knees up with the ITV team, decorating the room with lights and balloons.
Cameras from GMB went to see the moment that the OAP was surprised, and viewers were left in hysterics by Edna’s unenthusiastic reaction.
Juliet Dunlop told Ranvir Singh in the studio: “We are surrounded by good wishes this morning – these are some of the 30,000 birthday cards for Edna.
“It’s all thanks to staff here who were determined that Edna’s 101st birthday was going to be a very different affair from last year when she was alone in her flat.
“She had to spend her milestone birthday on her own without friends, without her neighbours and without her son. Things are going to be very different this year.”
After Edna in to check out the surprise party, the sweet pensioner could be seen looking around the room in shock as she was sat down on a throne.
“Edna, look at the room!” one of the care home staff could be heard telling her, as Edna raised her arms up in the air in confusion and blew a kiss to the camera.
“Do you see all your cards and your name in lights?” a second woman said, as the elderly lady shook her head and replied: “No, I can’t see it. I can’t see it.”
Juliet tried to keep the interview flowing by gifting Edna a birthday card from the Good Morning Britain staff, who sang ‘Happy Birthday’ from the studio.
Fans of the show took to Twitter in hysterics over the interview, branding the OAP a “legend” as they joked she “couldn’t give a s***”.
“Edna is totally underwhelmed,” one fan laughed over the footage, as a second chimed in: “Well Edna is taking it all in her stride. Legend.”
“Edna couldn’t give a s***, good old Edna’s unimpressed,” a third said, as a fourth added: “Edna’s birthday surprise didn’t go to plan, did it?”
Alongside a laughing face, a fifth said: “Well that went well, Edna keeping it real.”
“Edna didn’t seem to know who anyone was, said she couldn’t see and couldn’t hear when they sang happy birthday but apart from that…” a sixth concluded.
It comes days after Kate Garraway had viewers cringing as she told a guest she could “not pronounce her name” in an awkward TV moment.
Dr. Shola Mos-Shogbamimu joined the ITV breakfast show for a passionate debate about racism.
The lawyer was introduced by Kate, who stumbled over the name and after a pause, she gave up.
Dr. Shola steered her in the right direction, saying: “I’m not letting you get off like this, do it phonetically!”
