I’m the queen of clean – my tips will keep your home cool during a heatwave – and where you charge your phone matters

THERE’S nothing worse than not being able to stay cool in your own home.

But if you can’t stand the heat there’s no need to fork out for pricey air-conditioning that will be completely useless for most of the year.

Beat the soaring temperatures at home with Lynsey’s tricks

You can beat soaring temperatures easily at home, Lyndsey Crombie told Express.co.uk.

The first thing that can make a massive difference on especially hot days is in your kitchen.

Lynsey said: “Step away from the stove and switch those heavy winter meals for summery salads and BBQs.”

And while you might not like them at first, a cool or even cold shower can stop you from overheating.

“The steam will linger and make your home feel hotter,” she explained.

It’s also important to think about which windows you keep open, since the ones that get direct sunlight will only heat up your home whilst windows in shady spots will let cool air flow freely.

It can also be tempting to keep all of your curtains and blinds open when it’s a sunny day, but doing so could also heat up your home.

Instead, Lynsey said to keep them closed during the hottest part of the day, especially in bedrooms where you’ll want it to be cooler to sleep.

If you’re still not drifting off, the pro suggested switching to a lower tog duvet in a bid to stay cool.

She said: Ditch your thick duvet and go for a lower tog or just use a cotton sheet

“If you have a hot water bottle, switch it around for the summer months and fill with cold water and then pop in the freezer half an hour before bed.”

And if you’re really wanting to go all out on staying cool, don’t charge your phone next to your bed.

The queen of clean explained that the devices can radiate heat and make your bedroom feel even hotter.
