Inside ‘normal’ Kate Middleton’s bargain wardrobe from her £16 Zara dress to her £1.50 Accessorize earrings

SHE may live in a palace and have access to glittering tiaras, but Kate Middleton often prefers to wear bargain high street items.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 39, has been known to wear jewellery as cheap as £1.50, so it can be easy for budget-savvy fans to copy her royal style.

Here, Fabulous takes a look at the mum-of-three’s high-street staples…

£16 Zara dress

Kate went straight to the top of the class today as she carried out an educational visit to University College London.

The Duchess of Cambridge put her best foot forward after stepping out in a grey houndstooth dress and towering Hugo Boss stilettos.

Thrifty Kate, 39, recycled the pussy-bowed long-sleeved £16 Zara dress from an event in January for today’s engagement at UCL.

£1.50 Accessorize earrings

In 2019, Kate visited the Royal Horticultural Society Garden in Surrey with Mary Berry and her earrings were certainly a steal for any budget.

In true Kate style, the stylish mum-of-three paired her £1,635 baby blue floral frock with some £1.50 gold earrings from high street brand Accessorize.

Originally a budget-friendly £5, Kate’s glam earrings have been reduced to £1.50 in the sale.

Keeping her jewellery on the minimal side, Kate’s dainty earrings have scalloped edges and intricate cut-out details which didn’t detract from her floral frock.

Proving that ‘The Kate Effect’ is still alive and well, the affordable earrings flew off the shelves shortly after the Duchess stepped out in them.

In fact, the Duchess appears to be a big fan of the brand and wore their £8 pink petal earrings for Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival in July as well as for the shoot showcasing her Back to Nature Chelsea Flower Show entry.

Kate sent fashion fans wild last year when she stepped out in a pair of bargain M&S trainers as she raced Olympian Jessica Ennis-Hill for SportsAid.

Needless to say, the Duchess green-striped trainers – which expertly offset her emerald outfit – sold out within minutes.

But M&S has brought them back for 2021 with a new twist.

This time round, the brand has brought out the shoes in navy – with silver sparkly and zebra print stripes.

£35 Asos dress

The Asos dress features three-quarter length sleeves, a broad and deep V neck

Kate also has been known to be a fan of online shopping and has been spotted (quite literally) in a polka dot dress from ASOS.

They reported that within 30 minutes of Kate stepping out of the car and getting pictured in the dress, it had sold out in all sizes.

If that’s not proof of the ‘Kate effect’ then we don’t know what is.

For their St Patrick’s Day message, there was only one colour Kate and Prince William were going to wear.

Appearing on their Instagram stories, the Duchess wore a vivid green plaid blazer as she wished their 12.8m followers a happy St Patrick’s Day.

Letting her apple green blazer do all the talking, Kate kept her jewellery to a minimum – only wearing a dainty gold shamrock necklace – and had her hair sleek and straight.

Complete with two pockets on either side, Kate’s jacket has four shiny gold buttons too.

And the best part is, it was a total steal at £59.99.

£75 Topshop dress

She’s also a fan of other shops on the high street and wowed in a long sleeve midi from Topshop during her India tour in 2016.

We shared how thrifty Kate Middleton is Britain’s most fashionable Royal – despite Meghan’s designer wardrobe costing thousands more.

Fashion stylist Lucas Armitage told Fabulous that Meghan has now shunned her “uncomfortable royal uniform” and has now returned to her pre-palace wardrobe after stepping back from the royal family.
