Prince William's Preference
Before their 2011 wedding, Prince William reportedly wanted Kate Middleton to be known as Princess Catherine, but this request was denied by the Queen.
Queen's Decision
Traditionally, princesses receive their titles through birth rather than marriage, and the Queen was not keen on making an exception for Kate, a commoner.
Post-Wedding Titles
After their wedding, Kate became known as Princess William of Wales and later gained the title of the Duchess of Cambridge, among others.
Current Title
Following the Queen's passing, Kate is now known as Catherine, The Princess of Wales, with her children using the surname Wales at school in honor of their father's Prince of Wales title.
