Kate, Wills and Charles lead royals honouring troops at the Festival of Remembrance but The Queen rests at home

THE Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Charles honour troops at this evening’s Festival of Remembrance as the Queen rests.

The family watched from the royal box at the world-famous venue after the Queen was told to only perform “light duties”.

Kate Middleton and Prince William opted for a monotoned look as they paid their respects to those who lost loved ones and their lives

But the matriarch will be present at tomorrow’s ceremony at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday.

The annual festival can be watched on BBC One at 9pm tonight with Huw Edwards presenting.

Gregory Porter, Cynthia Erivo, Alfie Boe, Alexandra Burke and Ramin Karimloo will all be performing at the Royal British Legion’s annual event.

Boris Johnson watched the event from his box, situated to the left of the royal box.

While Labour leader Keir Starmer sat in a box to the right of the royals.

The Royal Marines fanfare team opened the ceremony and were followed by Royal British Legion members carrying blue and gold standards.

Poet Tomos Roberts, who is also known as Tomfoolery will perform a specially commissioned poem to mark the centenary of the poppy as a symbol of remembrance.

On the Queen’s absence from tonight’s event, sources said she views Sunday Remembrance Day as “unmissable” and as one of her “most sacred duties”.

And they said it would “take something very serious indeed” for her to have missed the service.

She has missed the event just six times during her reign, either when pregnant or away on tour.

It’ll be her first official appearance since she filmed a video for the COP26 eco-summit.

Her Majesty had been due to attend and give her speech in person, but was advised not to fly to Glasgow.

However, she has been seen at Windsor. Earlier this month, she was spotted behind the wheel of her understated green five-door Jaguar, which usually used to ferry her beloved corgis.

Palace chiefs will “carefully examine” her diary to Christmas and into next year after doctors told her to take it easy.

Royal sources say they have been instructed to take a “careful and cautious approach” to Her Majesty’s diary in the future.

PAY RESPECTS

Prince Charles has insisted his mother is “all right” after well-wishers asked the Prince of Wales about the Queen’s health.

Charles, 72, was greeted by crowds of people as he left a branch of NatWest bank in Brixton after an engagement for the Prince’s Trust.

One man asked him: “Prince Charles, how is your mother?”

He replied: “She’s all right, thank you”.

The appearance of the Duke of Cambridge comes after his brother’s wife Meghan has got into a spot of bother.

Bombshell messages sent by Meghan Markle have revealed five alleged contradictions in her court claims.

‘MOST SACRED DUTIES’

The Duchess of Sussex’s credibility has been threatened after the explosive evidence was submitted to the High Court.

Text messages and emails between Meghan, 40, and her former communications secretary Jason Knauf were made public yesterday for the first time.

They came at the end of a sensational three-day case brought by the Mail on Sunday to appeal against Meghan’s privacy win.

The newspaper published extracts of a five-page private letter she’d written to her dad begging him not to speak to the media about her.

We review the five alleged contradictions that emerged from Meghan’s messages.
