Keir Starmer leads the charge
Labour leader Keir Starmer has called on Scotland Yard to reopen the criminal investigation into Prince Andrew. This comes after the Duke of York's name appeared in court documents related to Jeffrey Epstein on 69 occasions.
Embarrassment for the Royal Family
The Royal Family has been left shocked and embarrassed by the allegations that Prince Andrew participated in an underage orgy on a Caribbean island owned by the late billionaire paedophile. Anti-monarchy activists Republic have reported Prince Andrew to the police after his name appeared in the recently unsealed files.
Keir Starmer's stance
Keir Starmer, the former head of the Crown Prosecution Service, has emphasized the importance of looking into credible allegations. He believes that any complaints should be thoroughly investigated, with the focus on the victims.
Prime Minister remains tight-lipped
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has refused to comment on the calls for a new investigation, stating that it would not be appropriate to discuss police matters. The Metropolitan Police closed their previous investigation into Prince Andrew in October 2021.
Allegations made by Virginia Giuffre
Virginia Giuffre, now 40 years old, claims that she was trafficked to have sex with Prince Andrew on Epstein's island, as well as in his New York townhouse and Ghislaine Maxwell's Mayfair home, when she was just 17 years old. Prince Andrew vehemently denies these allegations, but he did agree to an out-of-court settlement with Giuffre.
Prince Andrew has remained behind the walls of his mansion, while his eldest daughter Princess Beatrice visited him for support. Buckingham Palace has declined to comment on the matter.
