LOOSE Men panellist Mike Tindall has revealed how he watched a rugby game with his newborn son 20 minutes after his wife Zara gave birth.
The former English rugby union player was part of the panel on ITV’s special edition of daytime TV show Loose Women to mark International Men’s Day.
Mike, 43, sat alongside Vernon Kay, Iain Stirling and Ore Oduba for the special episode of the show to chat all things men’s mental health.
The sporting star – who shares three children with the Queen’s granddaughter Zara Tindall – opened up about his experiences with marriage and fatherhood.
Mike recalled the birth of his third child, and only son, Lucas – who was born at home on Princess Anne’s Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire in March.
“The third was very fast,” he told his fellow panellists. “It was at home, [Zara] was waiting for her water to break and her best friend was there.
“She happens to be a maternity nurse and was saying, [Zara] was sort of lying on her side – ‘It’s never going to work that way’, but then it went.
“Within 20 minutes the baby had come and I was sat on the sofa watching rugby with my little boy! Now I am no longer surrounded by just women in my house.”
The rugby star pumped his fist in the air as he celebrated his son, who was pictured for the first time in May at the Houghton Hall International Horse Trials.
Mike also openly discussed his marriage to Zara, 40, admitting that it wasn’t always “roses and rainbows”.
“A marriage or a long-term relationship, it can’t all be roses and rainbows,” he said. “You know when you have children, that is a massive shock, change to your system, that you’ve never experienced.
“So there is going to be those rocky roads, like if you lose your job, you know there are things that are thrown at you that have to test both of you, and it will test that relationship.”
He also admitted that he would consider renewing his wedding vows to his wife as talk turned to keeping romantic relationships alive.
Zara gave birth to baby boy Lucas in March on the bathroom floor of her family home on Princess Anne’s estate.
She and husband Mike also have two daughters Mia, seven, and Lena, three.
