Meghan Markle & Prince Harry have announced just 2 Netflix shows in YEAR since £112m deal

MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry have announced just two Netflix shows in a YEAR since signing their £112million deal with the streaming giant.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex said they hoped to create content that “informs but also gives hope” when they revealed the megabucks partnership in September last year.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have so far announced two Netflix projects since signing their megabucks deal

Harry confirmed his first project for the venture back in March – a docuseries about the Invictus Games.

In a statement, he said he “couldn’t be more excited” for the ‘Heart of Invictus’, which will “give communities around the world a window into the moving and uplifting stories of these competitors on their path to the Netherlands next year”.

A few months later, Meghan announced she would take on the role of executive producer alongside Elton John’s husband to create a new animated series, Pearl.

It’s set to feature a 12-year-old girl and will be a family series on the streaming site.

“Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges,” Meghan said back in July.

Netflix has not yet confirmed when either project will be released.

And although the streaming giant does not yet know how the projects will be received, it said Archewell Productions – Meghan and Harry’s production company – has “several projects in development”.

A Netflix spokesperson told The Celeb Report Online: “Archewell Productions has several projects in development but the two projects we have announced are Heart of Invictus and Pearl.

“We’ll have more information about premiere dates in due course.”

The couple recently faced calls to ditch the deal after one of Princess Diana’s pals quit The Crown, calling the Netflix series disrespectful.

Jemima Khan, Diana’s close confidante, walked out of her advisory role on the show and demanded her name be removed from credits.

She said her friend’s story was not being “told as respectfully or compassionately as I had hoped” and asked for her contributions to be cut from the show.

But Harry and Meghan have not publicly responded to the incident.

One senior TV source, who has worked with Netflix, told Page Six: “To me, their silence is deafening.

“It might be easier to explain their position, had we seen the fruits of their labor on Netflix, but to date nothing has been released, which is leaving some raised eyebrows in the industry as to what Netflix is exactly getting out of their investment.”

The lack of Netflix content is similar to Meghan and Harry’s Spotify deal, which has so far seen just 37 minutes of content produced in the last year.

When Meghan and Harry announced their Netflix partnership last year, they said: “Our lives, both independent of each other, and as a couple have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection.

“Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope.

“As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us, as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens.”

After snapping the pair up, Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s co-chief executive and chief content officer, said: “We’re incredibly proud they have chosen Netflix as their creative home and are excited about telling stories with them that can help build resilience and increase understanding for audiences everywhere.”
