MEGHAN Markle has officially lost out on becoming a Brit.
She was required to live in the UK for three years before applying for citizenship and legally qualifying for a British passport.
But since both Megxit AND Brexit, the Duchess has lost her chance, DailyMail.com reports.
Under Home Office rules, Meghan could have qualified by November 2020.
But the move to America saw her spending more than 270 days out of the UK, nullifying the arrangement.
The Home Office Pamphlet states: “You must have been physically present in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands on the day 3 years before the application is received by the Home Office.
“You must not have had more than 270 days outside the UK in the 3-year period before making the application.
“You must not have had more than 90 days outside the UK in the 12-month period before making the application.”
Meg can still apply – but it will take much longer and she would have to move back to the UK to do so.
When she first got together with Prince Harry the palace confirmed the former Suits actress fully intended to become a British citizen.
In 2017 royal staff were adamant Meghan was to apply for citizenship just like anybody else, and that she would not be fast tracked by the Home Office.
At the time, Harry’s communications secretary, Jason Knauf told the BBC: “[Meghan] intends to become a UK citizen and will go through the process of that, which some of you may know takes a number of years.”
He added the California girl would be “compliant with immigration requirements at all times”.
But the couple have “no regrets” about Megxit now whatsoever, a source told people.
A source close to the couple told the magazine: “Meghan and Harry took a huge leap of faith to embark on their new life.
“Despite everything that has been going on this year, they don’t regret their move to the US.
“They love that they are able to focus on projects and causes that are important to them.
“It was always their dream to be financially independent and pay their own way.
“Harry was finally doing what he’d wanted to do for years, and to have Meghan and Archie with him was all he could have asked for.”
