MEGHAN Markle has now married red-headed Prince Harry, but has revealed she was obsessed with a different ginger star when she was younger.
The Duchess of Sussex, 41, opened up about childhood love for the Archie Comics, but insists that her son, who goes by the same name, isn’t named after the famous character.
The Duchess of Sussex revealed on her Archetypes podcast that she loved ‘red heads’ back as a child
Meghan said she ‘romanticised’ the ‘cookie cutter perfect life’ in the Archie Comics
Meghan gave fans a window into what her life was like growing up in the latest episode of her Spotify podcast Archetypes, which starred actress Mindy Kaling.
The royal mum-of-two said she “read a lot of Archie Comics” and confessed she “loves red heads” during the chat.
In the popular American comics, Archie is an adventure-loving teen who has red hair and freckles, similar to Prince Harry.
The character has since been adapted for modern audiences with CW’s Riverdale, which shows the teens solving mysteries in their local town.

Meghan, who released her third podcast episode as she flew to Germany for an Invictus Games Dusseldorf 2023 event, said: “I was alone so much as a child, I read a lot of Archie Comic books.
“For me, my parents split up when I was around two to three years old.
“I always wanted this cookie cutter perfect life – and you looked at that, and the boy in the letterman jacket…I romanticised that.
“It’s all part of the things that make you have this idea of the things you want when you grow up.”
Speaking of her son Archie, who was born in May 2019, Meghan added: “My son is not named after the comic books but I loved them. I collected them.”
The duchess then compared herself to one of Archie’s love interests, the intelligent and kind-hearted Betty Cooper.
Meghan said: “I’m way more Betty than Veronica and I’m the smart one, not the pretty one, and am I going to get the guy one day?
“All this stuff was wrapped up in reading Archie Comic books and It’s aspirational in some ways.
“I like red heads and I like the name Archie too! It’s full circle!”
Also during the talk, Meghan admitted she was a shy “ugly duckling” growing up and “never had anyone to sit with at lunch”.
In the 50-minute episode titled The Stigma of the Singleton with Mindy Kaling, the comedian asks Meghan: “Were you not the pretty one growing up?”
The Duchess of Sussex replies: “No, god no. Ugly duckling. Not conventional beauty – maybe now that would be seen as beautiful.
“I had massive frizzy curly hair. I had a huge gap in my teeth.

“I was the smart one, forever and ever and ever. And then just sort of grew up.”
Meghan also told how she was asked to plan her own wedding aged 14 as a religious studies school project.
She said: “When I was 14, I planned my wedding. Not my actual wedding, that would have been a bit harder to imagine.”
The duchess described how she wanted her wedding to be in the Bel Air hotel, with a “Swan Lake” and “oh my goodness, the dress, strapless and poofy and I’d seen it in a bridal magazine”.
This week, Meghan gave a seven-minute speech at the One Young World summit in Manchester.
She was slammed by fans for mentioning herself 54 times in the address.
