Meghan Markle’s deep curtsy to Queen’s coffin is sweet echo of her first meeting with Her Majesty

MEGHAN Markle’s curtsy to the Queen today was a sweet echo of the moment she first met her grandmother-in-law.

The Duchess of Sussex gave a deep curtsy before Her Majesty’s coffin in Westminster Hall this afternoon.

The sweet moment was a touching reminder of Meghan’s first meeting with Her Majesty

She followed the Prince and Princess of Wales, who moments before bowed their heads in a mark of respect to the late monarch.

And Meghan, who appeared poised in quiet reflection, slowly lowered herself to the ground with her head bowed.

The touching moment may have been a particularly emotional reminder of the very first time she met the Queen.

Meghan previously told Oprah Winfrey how she hadn’t expected to have to curtsy and had to learn moments before.

GLOWING TRIBUTE

Harry uses the same sweet tribute for Meghan as Charles does for Camilla

She said: “I remember Harry and I were in the car, and he says, ‘OK, my grandmother is there so we’re going to meet her’.

“And I said, ‘Oh great, I love grandmas.’ […] ‘But, right, do you know how to curtsy?’

“I thought that was part of the fanfare. I didn’t think that’s what happens inside, and I said, ‘It’s your grandmother.’ He goes, ‘It’s the Queen.'”

Meghan added: “I learned it very quickly,” Markle added. “Right in front of the house, we just practiced and then walked in. […] I met her and, apparently, I did a very deep curtsy.”

During the same interview last year, Meghan told how she would “regularly phone the Queen “just to check in” and described the monarch as “warm and inviting”.

She also said the first time she met her grandmother-in-law was “lovely and easy”.

There were tears and raw emotion from some of the devastated family members today as they joined in prayers for Her Majesty.

It followed a sombre 38-minute procession where King Charles led the Queen’s children and grandchildren from the Palace past thousands of mourners.
