Meghan told Harry that you ‘can create your own life better than any princess’

Prince Harry revealed the phrase on the Armchair Expert podcast

The revelation came as Harry was asked about what life was like as a real royal – and how it compared to representations of princes and princesses in movies.

Prince Harry told the Armchair Expert podcast: “My wife had the most amazing explanation.

“‘You don’t need to be a princess, you can create the life that will be better than any princess.’ It’s something like that.

“And that’s coming from her own lived experience.

“We got together and she was like ‘wow, this is very different to what my friends at the beginning said it would be.'”

He also said that when he was younger he would watch Disney movies – to which the host Dax Shepherd said it must have been “bizarre” for him when he really was royalty.

In shows where the “ultimate prize was to become royalty,” Shepherd asked Prince Harry what it was like when the reality didn’t feel “all that euphoric.”

The Duke of Sussex then said: “I do think that the old way of thinking – of the prince and princess – with all these little girls reading these wonderful fairytales thinking ‘all I want to be is a princess.’

But Harry then said “and I’m thinking…” before squirming – as the host jumps in adding “It’s not so rad!”

Harry’s revelations on the podcast

  • Prince Harry claims his life is like the film The Truman Show and he is targeted with “vile and toxic abuse” by trolls
  • Harry revealed how he and Meghan Markle first met up in a supermarket – and ‘pretended’ they didn’t know each other to avoid attracting attention
  • Harry tries to have “compassion” for trolls, but finds it “really hard when you’re on the receiving end”
  • The Duke said that life had felt “more free” since his move to LA with Meghan

In the podcast, Harry also claimed his life is like the film The Truman Show and he is targeted with “vile and toxic abuse” by trolls.

He said he relates to Jim Carey’s character who has every second of his life scrutinised and broadcast to the world.

Harry described this kind of hatred as a “form of project” which derives from “unresolved pain”.

Speaking on the podcast, he also revealed how he and Meghan Markle first met up in a supermarket – and ‘pretended’ they didn’t know each other to avoid attracting attention.

The pair went to great lengths to keep their relationship and trips across the globe a secret from the world until October 2016, when news first broke they were an item.

During the podcast, the Duke was asked by Dax if he had ever done “mundane things” as a royal, such as go to the supermarket.

ROYAL LIFE

This follows the news that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wax models are being moved AWAY from the Royals at Madame Tussauds to the “Awards Party” zone.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s figures will be moved to stand alongside celebrities at the wax gallery – to reflect their independent status following Megxit.

Instead of standing alongside other Royals, Meghan and Harry will be in the ‘Awards Party zone’ of the museum.

This is to represent their sensational move from Frogmore Cottage to Hollywood after they stepped down from Royal duties in January 2020.

In a press release, Madame Tussauds said: “Harry and Meghan have moved zones – Madame Tussauds London has moved its figures of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to their brand new Awards Party zone to reflect their move from Frogmore to Hollywood.”

Now the figures will stand amongst other A listers including Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Nicole Kidman and the Beckhams.

Tim Waters, General Manager at Madame Tussauds London, said: “The launch of Awards Party brings back the fun and excitement of a stylish night out that London has been craving since the start of lockdown.

“Ever watchful of the celebrity landscape, we’ve also moved Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s figures to join their Hollywood friends, reflecting their new status on the world stage as A-list favourites.”
