PIERS Morgan has demanded that Meghan Markle is stripped of her title – after she cold-called politicians as the Duchess of Sussex.
The TV firebrand, a long-standing critic of Meghan and Harry, kicked off after learning the royal is allegedly lobbying Republican senators on their private phones.
He tweeted: “Just outrageous for Princess Pinocchio to use her royal title for political lobbying like this.
“The Queen must stop the Sussexes causing such endless damage to the monarchy’s reputation.
“Take their titles away.”
It’s claimed Meghan called the politicians in her battle for paid parental leave.
She reportedly tried to use her influence to get them to vote for the rights in the US.
Senators Susan Collins of Maine and Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia received unexpected calls.
They say Meghan used her title to lobby the cause.
‘STRIP HER OF TITLE’
“Much to my surprise, she called me on my private line and introduced herself as the Duchess of Sussex, which is kind of ironic,” Collins told Politico.
“I was happy to talk with her, but I’m more interested in what people from Maine are telling me about paid leave.”
Moore told the publication she was driving when a call with a blocked ID came through.
“She goes ‘Sen. Capito?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ She said, ‘This is Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex’,” she said.
“I couldn’t figure out how she got my number.”
It comes after Meg wrote a lengthy plea to two Democratic lawmakers in Washington DC in which she advocated for paid family leave.
But her intervention has incensed some politicians in America, who have hit back at her for daring to “intervene”.
Lisa McClain, a Republican representative for Michigan, said the move was “incredibly out of touch with the American people,” – and she should “stick to acting instead of trying to play politics”.
And experts say Meghan is eyeing a move into politics herself.
Angela Levin, author of Harry: A Biography of a Prince, said: “Meghan’s first try for a political role perhaps.
“She’s writing to Nancy Pelosi and Charles Schumer ‘on behalf of all families’ to get paid leave.”
Megan has insisted that the plea was sent as an American and a “mum” and not a politician.
She wrote in her letter: “I’m not an elected official, and I’m not a politician. I am, like many, an engaged citizen and a parent.
“And because you and your congressional colleagues have a role in shaping family outcomes for generations to come, that’s why I’m writing to you at this deeply important time – as a mom – to advocate for paid leave.”
Last week, she spent $25 – around £18 – on a Starbucks gift card for charity workers at Paid Leave US.
The duchess, who is believed to have a shared wealth of £250million and lives in an £11m mansion in exclusive Montecito, thanked staff for their work.
The charity has 21 members of staff. The average price of a Starbucks drink in the US, as of September 2020, is $2.75 – meaning only nine members of staff can have a coffee with the card.
America currently has no system for paid parental leave, although President Joe Biden has vowed to introduce it.
