Prestigious British Army unit The Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment risks being axed after drugs & racism scandals

AN Army unit that produced one of the few living recipients of the Victoria Cross has been warned it risks being axed because of bad behaviour.

The Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment — known as the Tigers — has faced scandals including a stabbing, sexual assault, drugs and racism.

The Forces are facing deep cuts of up to 10,000 troops.

Lt Col Wilde’s warning came in a blistering dressing down after five men failed a drugs test at the British base in Cyprus.

“He was speaking to the whole battalion and he said tough decisions were coming about which units get cut,” a source said.

“No decisions have been made yet, but it’s a really bad time to get a bad rep.”

The Tigers trace their roots to 1572 but the modern unit was formed in 1992 from the amalgamation of the Queen’s Regt and the Royal Hampshires.

The regiment’s most famous living soldiers include VC holder Johnson Beharry and SAS hero Phil Campion.

“It’s a great regiment that served with distinction in recent conflicts,” Big Phil said.

“If there is a problem I’m sure they will resolve it.”
