Rufus Sewell's Secret Revealed
Actor Rufus Sewell used a botty double to play Prince Andrew in new film Scoop — revealing he wore a huge false bum for a nude scene. He needed the prosthetic backside to portray the disgraced royal because his own bottom was not fat enough.
Behind the Scenes
The Duke of York is shown flashing his rump as he climbs out of the bath in the Netflix drama Scoop, which delves into Andrew’s disastrous 2019 BBC Newsnight interview about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.
Gym Regular Transformation
Gym regular Rufus, 56, was keen to make clear the decision for him to use the fake rear was nothing to do with him being prudish about showing off his own butt. Rufus revealed that he used a fake rear, as his own bum wasn’t fat enough for the scene.
Complete Transformation
Rufus spoke of being transformed by the creative team for the role, including the fat-suit to replicate the prince’s posterior and torso. It also involved hours of make-up and other prosthetics which added layers of wrinkles and fat to his cheeks, forehead, and even eyelids.
The Royal Voice
In the interview scenes with Emily Maitlis, played by Gillian Anderson, he had to perfect the distinctive "Windsor clenched jaw" which helped him nail the royal’s voice.
Embracing the Role
Rufus, best known for playing swarthy cads in films and TV shows, recalled his excitement for roles that allowed him to transform. He embraced the challenge of embodying Prince Andrew’s unique physicality and voice.
