PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle’s highly anticipated documentary has been delayed after Netflix faced backlash over a plotline in a major program.
Netflix decided to postpone the documentary until next year following attacks from former UK Prime Minister John Major who complained about how King Charles II was portrayed in the latest season of The Crown.
Netflix is said to be delaying Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s documentary after facing backlash over an episode of The Crown
The former Prime Minister dubbed the first episode of Season 5 “a barrel-load of nonsense” saying it could unfairly harm the reputation of King Charles.
Imagined conversations between the ex-Tory leader, the Queen, and the then-Prince of Wales are set to feature in the new series, released on Netflix next month.
Deadline reported the episode is set to suggest that Prince Charles summoned Major in 1992 to complain about having to wait to take over the throne.
In a statement, a spokesman for Sir John said: “Sir John has not cooperated in any way with The Crown.
“Discussions between the Monarch and Prime Minister are entirely private and, for Sir John, will always remain so.”
The comes as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were said to be feeling panicked about their show following the Queen’s death.
They are said to be at odds with Netflix staff and the show could even be “shelved indefinitely”, insiders claim.
But the streaming giant was said to be standing by the filmmakers who want to keep the content they have.
One insider reportedly told Page Six: “Harry and Meghan are panicked about trying to tone down even the most basic language. But it’s their story, from their own mouths.”
Another added: “They’ve made significant requests to walk back content they themselves have provided — to the extent that some Netflix staff believe, if granted, it will effectively shelve the project indefinitely.”
