This is the first time Princess Diana’s dress will be on display in Kensington Palace since 1995

It comes ahead of what would have been Diana’s 60th birthday on July 1 which will be marked by Harry and William unveiling a new statue of their mother.

The Princess of Wales’s ivory silk taffeta wedding dress will be displayed complete with its spectacular sequin train which was encrusted with over 10,000 pearls.

And at 25 feet-long, it still remains the longest wedding dress train in royal history.

The stunning dress – designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel – was made of antique lace (something old), material from a British silk farm (something new) and even had a small blue bow sewn into the waistband (something blue).

Diana’s dress last went on show in 1995 at Kensington Palace, but was later displayed at her childhood home, Althorp.

Other items going on display will be a rare surviving toile for the 1937 coronation gown of The Queen Mother.

The unveiling of the new exhibition comes as Prince Harry’s return to the UK has been thrown into question by pregnant Meghan Markle‘s due date.

Appearing on ITV’s Lorraine this morning, the Mirror’s royal editor Russell Myers told stand-in host Cat Deeley that Harry may miss the unveiling of his mother’s statue.

The brothers are expected to reunite next month for the unveiling of their mother’s statue

He said: “The things I’m being told is they still really want to be there, both of them. Certainly, William and Kate will be there.

“But whether Harry can fly over there because the baby is imminently due this summer… it will certainly be in the next couple of weeks.”

The Kensington Palace ceremony is a long-term project between the brothers, who fell out over Harry’s decision to quit as a working royal.
