PRINCE Harry reportedly met with a Saudi billionaire who donated thousands of pounds to his charity amid Prince Charle’s “cash for access probe.”
It comes as the Duke’s foundation is being probed after his trusted aide Michael Fawcett, 58, was accused of offering a Saudi billionaire a knighthood in return for charity donations.
The Duke of Sussex met with Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz in a pub in Chelsea, West London, after he gave £50,000 to his charity, the Times reported.
The meeting was allegedly held in late 2013 and they reportedly spoke about Sentebale, the charity Prince Harry founded after his gap year in Lesotho, and posed for photos.
Almost a year later, in March 2014, after Prince Charles had his own meeting with Mahfouz, Harry allegedly joked when he met the Saudi at Clarence House: “Has father beaten me to it and got the money?”
The foundation has claimed that beyond the two donations “no other activity took place.”
While Harry posed up for photos with Mahfouz’s sons, a banquet was agreed in the billionaire’s honour at St James’s Palace to encourage more donations but the event was called off.
The outlet reports that in January 2012 Mahfouz’s adviser told a royal intermediary that he had agreed to give money, but his family wanted to know “precisely what they are getting for that”.
In February 2013 Mahfouz sent £50,000 to Sentebale.
Charles awarded the billionaire with a CBE and named a woodland at a Scottish castle in his honour.
Police were alerted when Michael Fawcett, 58, temporarily stepped down as chief executive after a letter showed he was “willing and happy” to help Dr Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz get a knighthood and citizenship after he coughed up £1.5million.
Last month Fawcett resigned from his post as chief executive of The Prince’s Foundation during the investigation.
Sentebale said: “Sheikh Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz’s foundation was introduced to a trustee of Sentebale as a prospective high-level donor.
“A meeting with Mahfouz and the duke was arranged to discuss the work of the charity.
“Beyond the two donations made to Sentebale by Mahfouz, no other activity took place.”
Meanwhile, Prince Charles said he is ready to speak with the police and help with the investigation, according to the Times.
Charles claims he had no knowledge of his aide’s alleged involvement with Mahfouz but he could be a vital witness as he has held private meetings with him in London, Scotland and at the British Embassy in Saudi Arabia.
A Clarence House spokesman said Prince Charles would “of course” assist detectives if asked to do so.
