PRINCE Harry’s eco travel firm today announced it was partnering with Google – marking another high-powered deal for the duke.
Travalyst said it wants the “broadest industry alignment possible” for sustainable travel, with Google representing a “significant step forward in that mission”.
Harry launched Travalyst in September 2019 with aims to help tourists makes more sustainable choices when travelling.
Announcing Google’s partnership today, the firm said it aimed to bring “some of the world’s largest travel and tourism platforms and service providers” together.
The company’s partners have so far included Booking.com, Tripadvisor, Visa, and Skyscanner, with Google becoming the latest in the mix.
Chief Executive Officer of Travalyst, Sally Davey said: “The Travalyst Coalition strives to leverage its collective reach and help drive mass adoption of sustainability standards.
“We’re excited to continue this endeavour with Google as a member of the Travalyst Coalition, delivering on this unique opportunity to build positive, transformative change in travel.”
But it is not the first time Harry has teamed up with the Silicon Valley giants.
In 2019, he gave a barefoot speech at a Google climate retreat – to celebs who flocked in on 114 private jets and superyachts.
It was claimed the super-secret three-day event hosted a crowd of VIPs and power brokers, with Harry giving an impassioned talk about protecting the environment.
Meanwhile, Travalyst aims to help holidaymakers pick low carbon options for their trips more easily and chose destinations that will have more benefit to local communities.
The name is a mixture of the words travel and catalyst, with Harry explaining when he launched it that it came from “viewing our role in sustainable travel as catalysts to accelerate positive changes in travel”.
Today, the company’s chief executive said Google’s approach to travel “aligns strongly with Travalyst’s collaboration principles”.
Kate Brandt, Chief Sustainability Officer at Google, added: “Addressing the challenge of climate change requires us to find solutions at scale, and this is especially true when it comes to travel and tourism.
“By working with Travalyst and our industry partners, we aim to build tools and technology that enable travelers and businesses around the world to prioritize sustainability.”
