But he hit back at claims that he had been scathing towards Queen Camilla when they first met

After telling ITV’s Tom Bradby tonight how he bottled up the trauma of losing his mum Princess Diana, he criticised the King over intimacy and communication issues growing up.

Prince Harry said in an audio recording of his book: “He’d always given an air of not being quite ready for parenthood: the responsibilities, the patience, the time.

“Even he, though a proud man, would have admitted as much.

“But single-parenthood? Pa was never made for that. To be fair, he tried.”

This week The Celeb Report also revealed that Princes Harry and William begged the King not to marry Camilla over fears she would be their wicked stepmother.

In an explosive section of his biography Spare, the Duke of Sussex relives the moment he was introduced to the now-Queen Consort for the first time.

Incredibly, he compared seeing her for the first time to avoiding pain while getting an injection.

He writes: “This is nothing. Close your eyes and you won’t even feel it.”

Bradby suggested that Prince Harry had been “consistently scathing” about his stepmother, citing another claim in his book that his “interests were sacrificed on her PR alter”.

But Prince Harry told Bradby: “There’s no part of any of the things that I’ve said are scathing towards any member of my family, especially not my stepmother.”

And he insisted that he is at peace with their marriage and  was telling the truth on the King’s wedding day when he said he was really happy for them.

He continued: “William and I wanted our father to be happy and he seemed to be very, very happy with her. We asked him not to get married. He chose to.

“Um, and that’s, that’s his decision. But the two of them were and remain very happy together.”

Prince Harry also said: “The book is very clear what happened.”

Another audiobook recording said: “‘We support you’, we said. ‘We endorse Camilla’, we said. ‘Just please don’t marry her, just be together, Pa’.

“He didn’t answer. But she answered. Straight away. Shortly after our private summits with her, she began to play the long game.

“A campaign aimed marriage, and eventually the Crown, with Pa’s blessing we presumed.

“Stories began to appear everywhere in all the papers about her private conversation with Willy, stories that contained pinpoint accurate details, none of which had come from Willy, of course.

“They could only have been leaked by the other one person present.”

Prince Harry then told Bradby: “There’s no part of any of the things that I’ve said are scathing towards any member of my family, especially not my stepmother.

“There are things that have happened that have been incredibly hurtful. Some in the past, some current.

“No institution is immune from criticism.”
