The Duke of Sussex’ book Spare was published back in January revealing shocking claims against the Firm.
And new revelations from Moehringer make it clear the book caused drama during the writing process too.
The Pulitzer Prize winner said his relationship with Harry became strained over issues with final edits.
Moehringer recalled one incident last summer saw the pair shouting at each other down the phone during the early hours of the morning.
He wrote in the New Yorker: “I was exasperated with Prince Harry.
“My head was pounding, my jaw was clenched, and I was starting to raise my voice.
“And yet some part of me was still able to step outside the situation and think, ‘this is so weird. I’m shouting at Prince Harry’.
“Then, as Harry started going back at me, as his cheeks flushed and his eyes narrowed, a more pressing thought occurred: ”Whoa, it could all end right here’.”
The dispute came after a discussion over Harry being captured by pretend terrorists during military exercises.
One of captors screamed insults at the Royal which involved a “vile dig at Princess Diana” – later leading to the participant apologising.
Moehringer continued: “Harry always wanted to end this scene with a thing he said to his captors, a comeback that struck me as unnecessary, and somewhat inane.
“For months, I’d been crossing out the comeback, and for months Harry had been pleading for it to go back in.
“Now he wasn’t pleading, he was insisting, and it was 2am and I was starting to lose it.”
Admitting it wasn’t the first time the two had comes to blows, Moehringer said it “felt different” as they were “hurtling toward some kind of decisive rupture”.
Despite the tense outlash, Harry accepted readers didn’t need to know anything more about the incident and his response.
With a cheeky grin on his face he then told Moehringer: “I really enjoy getting you worked up like that.”
The writer said he “burst into laughter” before moving onto the next set of edits.
Harry was in the UK for just 24 hours at the weekend supporting dad Charles, 74, on his coronation day.
He wasted no time in leaving behind his newly-crowned father and other royals – leaving London’s Westminster Abbey to jet back to wife Meghan and kids Archie, four, and Lilbet, one, in California.
It comes after he flew in solo as the historical event fell on the same day as Archie’s fourth birthday.
