PRINCE William ordered aides NEVER to brief against the family members after witnessing the devastating impact of Charles and Diana’s media attacks dubbed “War of the Waleses”.
It comes as a shock BBC documentary, which aired tonight, accused William and Harry’s households of briefing the media against each other.
Presenter Amol Rajan says his controversial two-part documentary and podcast is “shocking” and “weird” and contains “racism, sexism” and “briefing or counter briefing”.
The Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William are threatening to stop cooperating with the national broadcaster unless it removes the allegations – saying the Beeb refused to give them a right to reply or see the footage.
They are braced to complain to Ofcom and have lawyers on standby.
The first episode of The Princes and the Press screened tonight and included an interview with Finding Freedom author Omid Scobie.
The series also comes with a BBC podcast “Harry, Meghan and the Media” also presented by Rajan.
A senior royal source close to Prince William said: “William was clear right from the start that we were never to brief and never to say anything about anyone in the other households.
“He’d lived through that in the 90s with his parents during the War of the Waleses and doesn’t ever want it happening again.
“He’s in a much better place (with the press) than his brother and the things that would bother him don’t. Harry will hopefully get there too.
“There was a real hope that Harry would be able to bury his demons and William did try to help him. But it didn’t work.”
Aides for Princess Diana and Prince Charles embarked on a bitter public spat during their break up and divorce.

The media was briefed from both sides causing huge family rows played out in public and leaving Wills vowing never to repeat the ‘War of the Waleses”.
Rajan, a self-declared Republican who has described the Monarchy as “absurd”, has spoken to a string of Fleet Street journalists and royal commentators.
No one in the royal family or household has seen the documentary’s final cut.
Omid Scobie, who it has been revealed was briefed by Meghan and Harry for his book Finding Freedom, has been interviewed.
A claim made by Scobie last summer that William’s aides had leaked stories about Harry’s mental health were axed from an ITV documentary amid complaints.
Buckingham Palace did not want to comment.
