Expert Claims Royals 'Quite Worried'
According to veteran royal photographer Arthur Edwards, Prince William and Princess Kate must be feeling concerned after masked raiders breached security at Windsor Castle. The incident involved thieves using a stolen truck to ram through a security gate on the estate while the royals were believed to be in residence.
Security Breach Details
The two masked men scaled a 6ft fence at night to steal farm vehicles, all while the royal family slept nearby. They then made their escape by crashing through the security gate with the stolen truck. Mr. Edwards described the incident as "incredible" and highlighted the vastness of the estate, noting that the royals must be working hard to address the breach.
Royals' Safety a Top Priority
Despite the break-in focusing on vehicles rather than harming anyone, Mr. Edwards emphasized the importance of keeping the Royal Family safe. He mentioned that while security measures are in place, incidents like these can still occur, pointing to a past intrusion at Buckingham Palace. Prince William, in particular, is believed to have questions about the breach but is likely relieved that the family was unharmed.
Police Response and Investigation
The raid at Shaw Farm inside the castle's security zone prompted an investigation by Thames Valley Police. The suspects made off with a pick-up truck and a quad bike, with no arrests made yet. The decision to remove armed police from certain areas of Windsor Castle was reportedly due to officer shortages and to ease concerns of visitors.
Previous Security Incidents
This recent security breach is not the first at Windsor Castle, with a previous incident on Christmas Day 2021 involving an intruder armed with a crossbow. The individual claimed he wanted to harm the Queen and was subsequently jailed for treason.
