Prince William has spoken of the importance of family

Speaking to a table of first responders — at an Edinburgh rooftop bar while watching the Scottish Cup Final — he admitted it was an unusual time, but he could see an amusing side to it.

William said: “The funny thing is when I spoke to my family I found it so good to catch up — but then you haven’t anything to catch up on because no one had done anything.”

When one guest said they had not seen their in-laws for a year, Wills, in an apparent dig at sister-in-law Meghan, joked: “Some people are happy they haven’t seen their in-laws for a year.” After laughter, he added: “I love my in-laws.”

Meanwhile, he has turned his sights on Netflix bosses behind The Crown in the wake of the Bashir scandal.

They are due to begin filming a new series focusing on the 1990s, the decade Wills’ mother Princess Diana gave her Panorama interview.

William, who on Thursday publicly blasted the BBC over the interview, has made it clear to senior royals and advisers he does not want Netflix commercially exploiting it.

Last night a source said: “Prince William does not want that interview, clips from it or representations of it being screened by anyone.”

Royal expert Ingrid Seward said: “He is likely trying to get lawyers to ensure this footage is not repeated or dramatised by anyone, because it was obtained by deception.”

The Crown’s makers said: “It’s too early for us to comment on storylines”.

Ironically, Prince Harry and Meghan signed a reported £70million deal with Netflix after their move to the US. This week Harry was seen meditating in a trailer for a documentary he has made with Oprah Winfrey for Apple TV+.
