Princess Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank announce baby boy named August Philip in sweet tribute to Duke of Edinburgh

PRINCESS Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank have named their baby son August Philip in a touching tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh.

Buckingham Palace today released an image of the couple with their baby boy, who was born at the Portland Hospital in central London at 8.55am on February 9.

The baby name comes as a touching tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh who is currently in hospital

Eugenie posted the news on Instagram this morning

In the newly-released picture, the baby boy is wrapped in blue and has his eyes closed as he is held by his beaming father and clutches his mother’s finger.

The choice of Philip as a middle name pays tribute to the duke, who remains at King Edward VII’s hospital, having been admitted on Tuesday evening after feeling unwell.

Eugenie posted on Instagram: “We wanted to introduce you to August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.

“Thank you for so many wonderful messages. Our hearts are full of love for this little human, words can’t express.

The photos were taken by their “wonderful” midwife, the couple said.

‘DELIGHTED’

They added: “Thank you to the wonderful essential workers including our midwife who came to discharge our boy.”

Buckingham Palace today confirmed the Queen, The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York had been informed of the baby’s name and were “delighted with the news”.

A tweet from the official royal family account said: “The couple have been touched by the well wishes they have received on the birth of their first child, and are delighted to share this first photo as a family.”

On the day of his birth, Eugenie, 30, and Jack gave the world the first glimpse of their baby, posting a black and white image on Instagram of their hands cradling his tiny fingers and wrist.

The new royal baby – Eugenie and Mr Brooksbank’s first child – is the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh’s ninth great-grandchild.

He arrived at The Portland Hospital in London, the same place where Meghan Markle had baby Archie in May 2019.

It is also the hospital where Eugenie herself was born in 1990.

The baby is 11th in line to the throne, and means the Queen and Philip’s youngest son the Earl of Wessex, who was third in line when he was born in 1964, has moved down to 12th place in the line of succession.

It comes after Eugenie and Jack spent lockdown at Fergie and Prince Andrew’s home on the Queen’s Windsor estate, but have recently spent time at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s former home, Frogmore cottage.

The couple moved into the five-bedroom home in Windsor in November after a direct arrangement with the Sussexes.
