Queen looks majestic in blue as she heads to Westminster Abbey with walking stick to honour British Legion

THE Queen looked majestic in blue today as she attended a service of thanksgiving to mark 100 years of the Royal British Legion.

The monarch and her daughter Anne smiled brightly as they arrived at Westminster Abbey this morning for the ceremony.

The event highlights the charity’s work to support servicemen and women from UK and Commonwealth countries.

Both royals were seen wearing hats and brooches for the service.

Princess Anne has donned a purple coat and black gloves for the event.

The Queen, who was using a walking stick as she stepped out of her car, wore a striking – and very apt – royal blue coat with gold buttons.

She carried a small black handbag and accessorised her look with pearl earrings, a necklace and a stunning sapphire brooch.

The monarch has been pictured with a walking stick before, including in 2003 following an operation to remove torn cartilage from her right knee.

And she looked chipper today as she makes a return to her royal duties after a summer spent at Balmoral.

Her trip away was the first time she had visited the residence since the death of her husband in April.

She and son Charles also planted a tree on the Scots estate to mark her Platinum Jubilee.

The 95-year-old beamed as she met children from nearby Crathie Primary School.

She also dazzled in orange last week as she proudly kicked off the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games with Prince Edward at her side.

Meanwhile, it was yesterday announced that she has been inducted into Racing’s Hall of Fame after her most successful year ever.

The Queen is understood to be delighted at the accolade, which secures her spot in flat racing’s most exclusive club.

It comes on the back of her best year on the track, with more than £535,000 in earnings from her 33 wins on the Flat to date.

She is a regular at Royal Ascot and the Epsom Derby – with a trip with other members of the Royal Family already confirmed for next year.
