THE Queen has turned down an Oldie of the Year award because she says she “doesn’t meet the relevant criteria”.
In a hilarious cheeky response the monarch insisted “you are as old as you feel”.
The 95-year-old was offered the prestigious prize by Oldie Magazine, which is today being presented by the Duchess of Cornwall, 74.
But in a letter from Tom Laing Baker, Assistant Private Secretary to The Queen she turned it down.
The gracious letter of decline reads: “Thank you for your letter of 30th Jully, addressed to Sir Edward Young asking if The Queen would accept The Oldie of the Year award.
“Her Majesty believes you are as old as you feel, as such The Queen does not beleive she meets the relevant criteria to be able to accept, and hopes you will find a more worthy recipient.
“This message comes to you with Her Majesty’s warmest best wishes.”
