Queen’s priceless reaction when Charles called her ‘mummy’ – as prince uses affectionate nickname for mum on her jubilee

THE Queen’s notorious sense of humour shone through as she reacted to Prince Charles calling her “mummy” before he again used the affectionate term on her Platinum Jubilee.

Charles, 73, took to the stage last night at the star-studded Party at the Palace and poured his heart out in an emotional tribute to “Your Majesty, Mummy”.

Prince Charles referred to the Queen as ‘mummy’ during a speech on Saturday

The monarch raised her eyebrows when her son previously used the affectionate nickname in 2018

The heir to the throne hailed the monarch, 96, for being with Brits “in our difficult times” as she enjoys a four-day celebration for her Platinum Jubliee – marking a stellar 70-years on the throne.

Millions of viewers watching from home were deeply moved as he said: “You have met us and talked with us.

“You laugh and cry with us and, most importantly, you have been there for us.”

Directly addressing the monarch as “Your Majesty, Mummy”, he said: “The scale of this evening’s celebration – and the outpouring of warmth and affection over this whole Jubilee weekend – is our way of saying thank you – from your family, the country, the Commonwealth, in fact the whole world.

“On behalf of us all, I wanted to pay my own tribute to your lifetime of selfless service.

“Your family now spans four generations. You are our Head of State. And you are also our mother.”

The Queen watched on from home as her eldest son addressed the nation – but she was by his side when he previously publicly referred to her as “mummy”.

Back in 2018, members of the Firm gathered at the Royal Albert Hall for her 92nd birthday celebration.

Cheers echoed around the venue as Charles again said “Your Majesty, Mummy”.

But the Queen look less than impressed as she stood by him in a gorgeous yellow outfit.

She was snapped rolling her eyes and raising her eyebrows before grinning as other royals including Prince William and Sophie Wessex bursted into laughter.

It comes as Charles and Camilla today led the festivities at a Big Jubilee Lunch in the capital, one of 85,000 being held across the UK.

The Duchess of Cornwall, patron of the Big Lunch, joined the future king at a flagship feast at The Oval cricket ground in south London.

Elsewhere, the Earl and Countess of Wessex met people at a “Long Table” down on the Long Walk leading up to Windsor Castle.

They hope to break the world record for the longest dinner table by assembling 488 outside the iconic Berkshire residence.

The royals have vowed to share friendship, food and fun at the special get-togethers to celebrate the Queen‘s 70-year reign.
