ITV has announced the return of spoof comedy Spitting Image this month – with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the firing line.
The satirical show, which returned last year after 24 years away from our screens, will be back after hitting 4.4 million viewing figures.
A poster for the new series – which will air on-demand service BritBox from the 11th September – teased a hilarious snippet ahead of the show.
It shows a group of global figures stranded on a lifeboat, while some of the puppets are clinging on for dear life.
The poster illustrates the Queen pushing Meghan’s head below the sea, as Prince Harry struggled to watch from behind his hands.
There will also be some new additions in the shape of some of the England football team which managed to make it to the Euro 2020 final.
Those are footballer Marcus Rashford, England captain Harry Kane and manager Gareth Southgate.
Boris Johnson is seen calmly floating around in a dingy, while Dominic Cummings is seen keeping a close eye on Boris.
ITV has revealed other new puppets including Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Tom Cruise and Raheem Sterling.
Olivia Colman, Sajid Javid, Tom Daley, Jess Phillips, Ariana Grande, Gary Lineker, Bill Gates, Ellen DeGeneres are also set to feature.
Returning puppets include Prince Harry and Meghan, and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Joe Biden and Cristiano Ronaldo will also appear.
Along with Harry Kane, Beyoncé, Angela Merkel, Dwayne Johnson, Gareth Southgate, Ed Sheeran, Jürgen Klopp, Elon Musk, Adele, James Corden, Emmanuel Macron, Mark Zuckerberg and Donald Trump.
Having been one of the most-watched shows in the 1980s and 1990s, it would touch on a variety of current events and political satire.
The new series will also refer to Covid-19 and lockdown.
Original co-creator Roger Law is returning to helm the show and its creative team.
Speaking about the return of the comedy last year, he said: “The new Spitting Image will be global through a uniquely British eye, it will be more outrageous, audacious and salacious than the previous incarnation.
“With scandalous scripts and A-list characters, it will be the people’s programme!”
He added: “When Dominic Cummings gets the boot, Spitting Image will give him a job.
“We’ve always employed weirdos and are sure Dom will be a great asset, he seems to hate politicians as much as we do.”
While multi-award-winner Jeff Westbrook joined as Showrunner, leading the international writing team on the iconic British satirical take on global events.
The popular comedy came to an end in 1996, having made 18 seasons and 10 one-off specials.
At its peak, Spitting Image was watched by 15 million people in the UK, but after a decline in viewing figures, it was cancelled in 1996.
Fortunately, the sitcom has been given a reboot with some of today’s most talented impressionists taking on the voices.
