ELIZABETH Debicki is the jewel in The Crown’s new season – and is a double of Diana.
The 30-year-old actress takes over from Emma Corrin as the Princess in the fifth instalment that further explores the breakdown of her marriage to Prince Charles.
But Elizabeth and Di have more in common than cropped blonde hair.
Clemmie Fieldsend rounds up the occasions when Elizabeth has looked to the People’s Princess for style inspiration.
Black beauties
THERE is no denying the similarities between Diana’s bandeau maxi dress from the premiere of Dangerous Liaisons in 1989 and Elizabeth’s strapless Schiaparelli number that she wore to the 2019 world premiere of The Burton Orange Heresy in Venice.
The ladies in red
AN exposed shoulder was often favoured by Princess Diana and this red and purple gown in Hong Kong, 1989, was no exception.
The scarlet gown by Roland Mouret that Elizabeth wore to Comic-Con in 2015 is a modern twist on the royal’s outfit.
Starring in stripes
TREND-SETTER Diana gave the nautical look a feminine makeover with this white pinstriped dress by Catherine Walker and sailor-style hat as she visited a naval base in Italy, 1985.
While Elizabeth sported this similar double-breasted suit at the Sydney races, 2017.
Green and pleasant
DIANA’S go-to designer Catherine Walker made onlookers green with envy with this printed frock she wore on a royal tour to Saudi Arabia in 1986, while Elizabeth looked to Bulgari for her green floral frock at the stylish Met Gala in 2016.
Mono magic
ELIZABETH wowed at the Toronto Film Festival in 2018 wearing a designer dress by Prabal Gurung – a match for Diana’s monochrome gown that she wore during a visit to the Middle East in 1986.
Shimmering silver
DIANA stole the show in this glittering Bruce Oldfield dress, which had a risqué open back, in London in 1985.
Elizabeth also looked out of this world in a silver gown by Bottega Veneta at the premiere of Guardians of The Galaxy 2 in 2017.
Pastel princess
DIANA brightened up a dreary day in Glasgow in 1993 with this lilac button-up skirt suit.
While Elizabeth isn’t afraid to experiment with colour either, choosing the pastel hue for her trench coat at Burberry’s London Fashion Week catwalk show in 2017.
