Kate Middleton made her way to her seat for the Platinum Party at The Palace on Saturday evening

But the co-presenter revealed the excruciating encounter he had with the Duchess of Cambridge during the night’s festivities.

Roman revealed the blunder to the host of the evening – Kirsty Young: “I’m terrible at royal protocol when you meet a royal and what you have to say.”

He added. “I make mistakes all the time. Yesterday, Princess Kate was there.”

“She looked amazing,” Roman said, adding: “I saw her and she said, ‘you look great’ and I said to her ‘wow, yeah you look really fit!’

The TV presenter quickly realised his mistake, reports Birmingham Live, saying: “‘No not like that!'” He added. “Then I went, ‘you look amazing.'”

Speaking backstage at the concert, Kemp told PA: “People don’t understand the actual service that gets put in sometimes, I think.

“Over that amount of time, the things that she’s done for the country, in terms of bringing awareness to certain causes, bringing awareness to things that need to be shouted about and being able to back it up, whether it be finances or press or whatever, it’s been amazing.”

Roman also revealed some behind-the-scenes details of the after party held at Buckingham Palace, revealing they switched all the lights on to get people to leave.

“What I can’t believe is at an after party at Buckingham Palace, I’m going to say this,” Roman said. “They turned the lights on to make everyone leave, that’s the funny thing.”

“I didn’t stay that late,” Kirsty Young told him.

Celebrity Gogglebox star Roman continued: “It got so late and you know when you go to a nightclub, I literally went from under-18s Destiny nightclub in Watford where they turn the lights on at the end to still turning lights on at the end at Buckingham Palace.”

The Platinum Party at The Palace was a star-studded event for the Queen‘s Platinum Jubilee featuring the most popular talents including Rod Stewart, Craig David, Alicia Keys, Dianna Ross and Sir Elton John.

During Rod Stewart’s performance, he sang Sweet Caroline – a hit with the royal family.

Camilla and Charles were singing & waving their flags feverently.

Meanwhile, Prince William could be seen singing at the top of his lungs, with Prince George doing his best to emulate his dad.
