Thrifty Kate Middleton’s surprisingly ‘normal’ UK summer holiday plans revealed – and it’s NOT ‘luxurious’

LIKE many mums, Kate Middleton will be trying to find ways to keep her kids entertained while they are on their school summer holidays.

But despite living in a palace, the Duchess of Cambridge prefers giving George, eight, Charlotte, six, and Louis, two, a surprisingly “normal” summer.

Cornwall breaks

It might be expected that the royals go on flashy holidays abroad, this isn’t always the case for some of the younger members.

And there is one spot in the UK which Prince William and Kate Middleton often visit, and have done for the past two years for their family holiday.

Located in Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly is a favourite with the royal couple when going on holiday with their kids George, Charlotte and Louis.

They even visited in 2020, after being spotted biking on Tresco Island – a fellow holidaymaker who saw the royals at the time told The Celeb Report: “We hardly noticed at first as they seemed a normal family on holiday intent on keeping themselves to themselves.

“The place where they were staying was quite modest and certainly not hugely luxurious.”

They also aren’t the first royal parents to take their kids there – Prince Charles and Princess Diana took both William and Harry to the islands in 1989.

Budget flights

Kate and Will often opt for budget airlines if they do need to take a flight.

The family were seen boarding a £73-a-head FlyBe plane to Balmoral back in 2019.

Footage shows Prince William struggling across the runway while holding four bags with his son George and daughter Charlotte in tow.

Free outdoor fun

Kate prefers her kids to spend their summer holidays outside in nature, and doesn’t spend a penny on these days.

“She wants them to get fresh air and be in nature,” royal expert Katie Nicholl told OK!

“She loves to pick vegetables with them in the gardens. If they are learning about rivers or the sea, she and William try to incorporate that into their walks.”

Norfolk summer with chickens

During their summer holidays, Kate typically leaves Kensington Palace in London and heads to the family’s country home, Anmer Hall in Norfolk.

A source told Fabulous: “The great interest outside Anmer Hall are the hens, reared from chicks.

“Kate and the children are out daily in the hen house, collecting fresh eggs in their baskets, and the eggs are then used in the kitchen almost immediately.”

The royal kids also have their own vegetable patch at Anmer Hall, where they grow lettuce, small cucumbers and cherry tomatoes.

Shopping trips at The Range

Forget sticking strictly to Harrods or in designer stores, the Duchess of Cambridge stunned shoppers in 2018 by popping into budget store The Range.

Kate, who was with Prince George and Princess Charlotte, mingled with crowds in the cut-price outlet.

She bought trolley-loads of pictures, children’s books and artist materials then queued at the tills – to the amazement of those who spotted her.

And if that wasn’t “normal” enough for the royal mum, 39-year-old Kate previously surprised shoppers when she was seen picking up Halloween supplies in a local Sainsbury’s in Norfolk.

Does packed lunches for the kids

All eyes were on the royals as the Cambridges and the Sussexes went to the polo to watch Prince William and Prince Harry take part in a charity match during the summer of 2019.

Just like any other mum with hungry kids, Kate was seen handing round packed lunches to her excitable brood.

Princess Charlotte was seen tucking into some tasty snacks from inside a colourful lunchbox.
