TV host blasted by viewers as she tells pregnant Meghan Markle to ‘shut up’ in on-air rant

AN Australian TV host has come under fire from viewers and branded a “hypocrite” after she told Meghan Markle to “shut up” during an on-air rant.

Sunrise star Edwina Bartholomew launched into the attack as she discussed recent reports the pregnant duchess stayed in the United States instead of attending Prince Philip’s funeral as she “didn’t want to be the centre of attention”.

Edwina Bartholomew has been blasted for her cruel comments about Meghan Markle

Considering the claims, Edwina, 37, raged: “That just really gets my goat.

“I’ve reserved judgement about those two for quite some time, but if that is true, it just makes me so angry.

“I still liked Harry and Meghan, I just, I just feel I’ve turned now.”

She went on to say that Meghan would have attracted a lot of attention and been a “distraction”.

Edwina added:  “But for them to say that out loud… just go with the Palace line wouldn’t you just for once. Just shut up.”

Those watching the morning TV show were unimpressed with her comments and took to Twitter to blast her.

One person wrote: “If you don’t like her don’t talk about her then, but that wouldn’t be good for ratings would it? Hypocrite.”

Another tweeted: “@edwina_b is being a hypocrite. First they acknowledge that a “friend” has given the info, then they say MM should shut up. She hasn’t said anything publicly.”

While someone else remarked: “If Edwina Bartholomew wants to throw her career and credibility away by simpering to the Palaces and attacking a pregnant woman, we can definitely assist in her in that endeavor.”

Earlier this week it  was reported by the MailOnline that pregnant duchess‘s pals said she didn’t want to take any of the limelight during the Duke of Edinburgh‘s funeral on Saturday.

Harry made the 5,400-mile journey from the United States back to the UK earlier this week to make sure he could attend his grandad Philip’s funeral.

Meghan, who will remain at the couple’s home in Montecito, California with son Archie, was also advised not to travel because of her pregnancy.

A friend reportedly said: “Meghan said her main concern right now is supporting Harry. She said she left it up to him as to whether or not she would attend the funeral.

“Meghan said it’s during these times when family should come together, put their differences aside and unite as one. She said this is what Prince Philip would want and that she’s willing to forgive and move forward.”

Meghan’s pal reportedly added that the duchess’s mum Doria was “adamant” that she avoided travel during her pregnancy.
