Ruthie Henshall and Prince Edward attempted to keep their relationship a secret

What happened between Ruthie Henshall and Prince Edward?

During last Friday’s I’m A Celebrity episode, Ruthie opened up about her past relationship with The Queen‘s youngest son.

Her fellow campmates were telling their stories about visiting the Queen’s home – before Ruthie remarked to Shane Richie: “You [Russell Watson] performed in Buckingham Palace, you sang in the gardens, I s*****d in the bedrooms.”

Speaking to the EastEnders star, the West End actress said: “Lovely bloke. And I genuinely fell in love with him.”

Ruthie revealed that Prince Edward was “a production assistant at Andrew Lloyd Webber’s [theatre]”, becoming her point of contact after getting the lead role in A Star Is Born.

She added: “He [Edward] was the one who’d call me up and say you’re rehearsing at 2 o’clock or whatever.

“And he said to me ‘would you like to come to mine and watch the film of A Star Is Born with me and you can have some dinner’.”

Ruthie ended up spending the weekend with the Prince in Windsor, where she also met his mother, The Queen, along with Princess Margaret, Prince Charles, The Queen Mother and Princess Diana.

Yet, the royal meeting wasn’t all smooth sailing, having ignore her dad’s advice to curtsy – instead shaking her hand.

And it got even more difficult, saying: “Margaret goes ‘Yes, yes, oh sing us a song from that show you’re in’.

“I was in Les Mis at the time so I sang I Dreamed A Dream. I must have changed key three times because I was so p****d on martinis.”

Ruthie and Prince Edward ended up spending two years ‘solidly’ together, and another three on and off.

And on Saturday, Ruthie dropped a bombshell when she told pal and fellow camp mate Shane Richie that she had sex with Prince Edward in Buckingham Palace.

Ruthie said she ‘genuinely fell in love with’ the Prince

Ruthie told the EastEnders stalwart: “You sang in the gardens, I s****ed in the bedrooms.”

She went on to add that she even stole a coat hanger from Windsor Castle as a cheeky memento before sharing that they have “normal toilet roll” – without a “royal seal” as she expected.

Ruthie joked how her first date was at Buckingham Palace, with Shane retorting: “Blimey, my first date was at Little Chef!”

She continued: “The musical theatre legend continued: “He invited me to Windsor for the weekend and as we’re walking I’m seeing a table outside and there’s people sitting around it and I’m thinking: ‘That looks like the Queen’.

“I remembered my dad had said to me that if you ever meet the Queen he said you curtsy and call her m’am, but I grab her hand, forget all about the curtsy, and I’m like: ‘I’m really, really pleased to meet you!”

Why did they break up?

Ruthie Henshall previously revealed that the pair split for the sake of her theatre career.

She revealed in 2008: “I thin I had hopes that we could walk on in our relationship but really and truthfully I think I was very aware that I wouldn’t be able to do what I do for a living if I’d have stayed with him.

“If you think about it, I would be in the theatre [doing] eight shows a week, they’d have to check out the theatre every night, check everyone’s bags, it would be just impossible.

“There was nothing – at that stage- that was more important than what I did.”

While Prince Edward moved on with Sophie, now Countess of Wessex, Ruthie later married Tim Howar – before the couple split in 2009.
