ON September 9, 2022, Her Majesty died peacefully aged 96 – marking an end to her historic reign.
Millions have paid their respects to the Monarch of 70 years in the days after her death, and now her state funeral and committal are about to take place.
What is the order of service for the Queen’s committal?
From 1pm around 800 guests will be welcomed inside St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, for Her Majesty’s final farewell.
Ahead of her committal, an organ will be played by the Organ Scholar Miriam Reveley and then Assistant Director of Music Luke Bond will play a selection of musical pieces.
At 3.25pm, the 800 guests inside the chapel will stand as members of the Royal Family arrive and are received by the Dean of Windsor.
Exactly 28 minutes later, the Queen’s hearse will arrive at the steps.
At 4pm, everyone will stand as the Monarch’s coffin procession enters the chapel and is moved to the quire as the choir sings a psalm.

They will then sit while the choir sings, before standing as the Dean of Windsor reads a Bidding.
The opening hymn will be All my Hope on God is Founded.
Everyone will then sit as the Dean reads Revelation 21.1–7, before the Rector of Sandringham, the Minister of Crathie Kirk and the Chaplain of the Royal Chapel, Windsor Great Park, read prayers.
The chapel will then say The Lord’s Prayer together, before the choir sings The Motet.
Everyone will then stand in silence for the presentation of the Instruments of State to be received by the Dean of Windsor, from the Queen’s Bargemaster and a Serjeant of Arms, who places them on the High Altar.
The Instruments of State include the Imperial State Crown, the Orb and the Sceptre, which have sat on the Queen’s coffin since her death.
A final hymn, Christ is Made Sure the Foundation, will be sung.
After that, the Queen’s Company Camp Colour is placed on the coffin by the King, having received it from the Regimental Lieutenant Colonel Grenadier Guards.
The Lord Chamberlain breaks his Wand which is placed upon the coffin.
As the coffin in lowered, the Dean will say a psalm, before the Garter King of Arms proclaims the Styles and Titles of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Queen’s piper will then play a lament, before the Archbishop of Canterbury pronounces a blessing.
The national anthem, God save our Gracious King, will then be sung.
Who will conduct the Queen’s committal?
The Service will be led by The Right Reverend David Conner, KCVO, Dean of Windsor.
He has served as the Dean of Windsor since 1998.
When is the Queen’s committal?
Her Majesty’s committal will happen at 4pm on Monday, September 19, 2022.
