PIERS Morgan sensationally quit ITV’s Good Morning Britain earlier this year following his controversial comments about the Duchess of Sussex.
Despite his dramatic departure, it’s now looking more and more likely that the divisive presenter will make a return to the show before the end of the year.
Will Piers Morgan return to Good Morning Britain?
Piers left Good Morning Britain in March 2021 following a row with his weatherman about Meghan Markle that ended with the presenter quitting the show and 57,000 Ofcom complaints.
A complaint was also reportedly made on Meghan’s behalf.
At the time, it looked unlikely that Piers would return to the programme – but now, Bookies have slashed the odds that he’ll be back.
Bookmakers Coral have reduced the odds on Piers making a comeback before the end of the year from 6-4 to 1-2.
It comes after Ofcom ruled that Piers was “entitled” to disbelieve the Duchess and that to say otherwise would be a “unwarranted and chilling restriction on freedom of expression.”
Morgan celebrated the victory on twitter and even cryptically wrote: “do I get my job back?”
And the bookies appeared to be thinking along the same lines and confirmed that the Watchdog’s ruling had influenced their judgement.
“After this latest ruling from Ofcom, we now make Piers Morgan odds-on to return to Good Morning Britain by the end of the year. Just a few months ago this looked extremely unlikely, however, ITV have yet to fill his position on a permanent basis so the door could be open for a sensational return,” Coral’s John Hill said.
Why did Piers Morgan quit GMB?
On 10 March, 2021 Piers Morgan made an abrupt exit from Good Morning Britain after six years hosting the program.
After Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex claimed in an interview with US talkshow host Oprah Winfrey that she had been suicidal during her time in the royal family Piers controversially said that he “didn’t believe a word” of it.
He was then challenged by weather presenter Alex Beresford.
The argument got nasty and it ended with Piers storming off the program.
Piers’ comments about the Duchess divided viewers and promoted nearly 60,000 Ofcom complaints.
After he left the show, Piers said on twitter that “freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on.”
