At one point Amanda Holden jumps up – as the character collapses

The character, long-time sidekick of Noel Edmonds on Noel’s House Party, appears in Saturday’s show.

However, none of the Britain’s Got Talent judges seem particularly keen to see the large pink and yellow monster.

And Alesha especially doesn’t seem to be a Mr Blobby fan, despite his heyday being when she was a child.

The 44-year-old greets the character – dubbed a “TV personality” when introduced by producers – with the words: “Oh no.”

Simon Cowell, 63, doesn’t look any more impressed, rolling his eyes as Mr Blobby collapses in front of the judges’ desk.

Amanda Holden, 52, screams while the pop mogul gently enquires: “Are you OK?”

Bruno Tonioli, 67, gets out of his seat and announces to the audience: “Mr Blobby’s going to hospital.”

There is then a magic trick that with crushing inevitability doesn’t go to plan, with the cards ending up all over the floor.

Fans were divided over the character’s appearance with one writing: “I cannot wait to see this lmao.”

However, another disagreed, sighing: “Oh no, anyone but him.”

Mr Blobby was created in 1992 by one of the writers on Noel’s House Party for use in stunts pranking celebs who thought they were appearing on kids’ TV.

Originally portrayed by Noel himself, the character went on appear in sketches and other TV programmes in the 90s.

He topped the charts in 1993 with the Christmas single Mr Blobby – spending three weeks at No1.

The same year a range of toys were released but its popularity waned and the character- who is supposed to say nothing but ‘Blobby’ did not appear on TV for some time.

Interest was revived earlier this year when it emerged that the original costume had been listed on eBay, with Blobby popping up on This Morning and Dancing On Ice.

Despite sweeping changes to the ITV schedule tomorrow for the King’s Coronation, BGT and the Saturday night entertainment line-up will still air as normal.

Britain’s Got Talent continues tomorrow night at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
