A Killer Makes A Call: The Chilling Story of Gary Pocock's Murder

The Tragic Story of Gary Pocock

Gary Pocock, a caretaker from Dagenham, east London, was brutally murdered in 2013 while on holiday at Leysdown. Lured to a deserted beach by a group he thought were his friends, Pocock was bludgeoned and kicked to death at the age of 34. Not much is known about the victim, who reportedly had two children and a partner at the time.

The Brutal Murder

The shocking crime involved Pocock being stripped, punched, stamped on, and beaten with such force that one of the bats used snapped in half. He suffered 62 devastating blows to his head, face, and body before his lifeless body was dragged into the water in an attempt to conceal the crime. The investigation began with little to go on, but a distinctive silver dragon ring near the body would prove crucial in unraveling the truth.

The Conviction of the Perpetrators

After meticulous investigation, including reviewing hours of CCTV footage, five individuals were convicted for the killing. Mark Terry, his son Matthew Terry, Christopher Bones, and Ritchie Zborowski were jailed for life, while Jamie West was convicted of manslaughter. The motive behind this horrific crime was allegedly a punishment attack based on an unverified claim of sexual assault.

How to Watch A Killer Makes a Call

The documentary reconstructing the investigation, featuring key figures like Kent Police detectives and criminologists, is available to view for free on the catch-up channel My5. Episode six of the series, focusing on the Sheppey story, will air on Channel 5 on August 13 at 10pm.
