A PLACE in the Sun’s Ben Hillman was left baffled after a couple pulled a huge U-turn halfway through a property hunt.
A recent episode of the Channel 4 show saw Ben try and help Michael and Helen from Shropshire find a home in Spain on their £125,000 budget.
The couple wanted a place with two or three bedrooms so their five grandchildren and families could visit.
They are also keen gardeners so wanted some outdoor space, but Ben admitted it could be tricky to meet all their requirements.
The first two properties failed to impress but Ben had more luck with the third, with Michael telling Ben he had “surpassed himself”.
The couple were even more impressed when Ben revealed it was well under budget at £112,000, and they loved it all the more once they saw the inside.
Afterwards Ben asked if they liked it and Helen said: “Mick was very excited,” while he added: “I was very excited. I just like the place, I really do.”
However, when asked if it was a contender, Helen suddenly replied: “No”.
A shocked Ben asked: “You’re kidding! Hang on a minute. Who’s calling the shots here? Helen, what’s this all about? You are ruling this out, not Mick?”
Helen replied: “Well, we’ve discussed it a little bit and it still needs quite a lot of work doing.
“So, even though it’s below budget, maybe we need to think about upping the budget a bit to get something that we don’t need much work doing to.”
