A PLACE in the Sun’s Jasmine Harman was clearly overwhelmed as a couple revealed the heartbreaking reason behind their decision to move abroad.
The Channel 4 property expert was on hand to advise sunseekers Paul and Lisa as they searched for a home in Spain’s Costa Blanca.
With the Barnsley couple looking for a holiday home which could accommodate visits from their three children and seven grandchildren, Jasmine had her work cut out for her.
But it soon became clear that there was another hugely emotional reason for the presenter to be emotionally invested in the search, as the couple spoke about Lisa’s breast cancer battle.
Early on in the show, Lisa told Jasmine: “In 2015, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in the same year we lost Paul’s sister.”
Paul added: “You have to live your life, can’t wait around and think I’ll do that at a later date.
“It’s a new adventure.”
Finding potential homes to view under the couple’s £72,000 budget seemed to be going to plan as they appeared impressed with the options.
Even Jasmine herself became overwhelmed as they viewed the third location in the popular resort of Torrevieja.
The presenter asked: “What does it mean for you to be able to do this?”
“It means everything,” said Paul.
Lisa explained: “It’s about making adventures and memories and valuing life for what it should be – and that’s what we intend to do.”
Recalling their experience, Paul said: “Somethimes before Lisa got cancer, I used to worry about trivial things and now I just think, what’s the point?
“If you’ve been through that you can get through anything.”
“It’s everything that we’ve been dreaming about,” added a tearful Lisa as they looked out over the roof terrace.
“We didn’t think – when I was having my treatment – I didn’t think we’d get to a point like this.”
Feeding off the couple’s reaction, Jasmine said: “I know you’re feeling emotional, I am as well, this is what I’ve been waiting for actually!
“I thought, how will I know when we’ve found something and this is it really.”
“I can’t see anything beating this,” Paul agreed.
But Jasmine did manage to beat the third property with her fifth and final choice, which included more space outside and a jacuzzi.
Slightly over their budget at £77,000, the pair were advised to put in lower offer of £73,000 which was accepted.
A Place in the Sun, Channel 4, weekdays at 3pm.
