Fans were ecstatic to see Welsh actor Paul Whitehouse make a cameo as the landlord

The show starred huge names such as Will Poulter as Bobby Jones, Lucy Boynton as Lady Frances Derwent and Hugh Laurie as Dr James Nicholson.

But viewers who tuned into the series finale were more distracted by one actor in particular.

Paul Whitehouse is a Welsh actor, writer, presenter and comedian, known for the BBC comedy sketch series The Fast Show.

He’s also appeared in high-profile film projects like The Death of Stalin and Disney’s live-action adaptations of Alice in Wonderland.

Fans were delighted to see him appear in the third and final episode as the landlord, however they thought he deserves more.

One fan wrote: “Paul Whitehouse is so underused as a serious actor. Watch him in the series Nurse or in the terrifying 2017 film Ghost Stories to get some idea of his range. #WhyDidntTheyAskEvans.”

A second commented: “Running the pub rather seems to suit Paul Whitehouse… #WhyDidntTheyAskEvans.”

Another penned: “Paul Whitehouse appearing in Agatha Christie thing is the best cultural combination for me.”

Meanwhile, a fourth noted: “He only has a small part but how good is @PaulWhitehouse in #WhyDidntTheyAskEvans . He needs more roles like that.”

And a fifth said: “Paul Whitehouse as the landlord of The Angler’s Arms is brilliant casting in #WhyDidntTheyAskEvans.”

As the programme came to a tantalizing end, some fans had nothing but praise for the three-part drama.

One fan noted: “Bl***y good, especially Lucy who was superb as Frankie.”

Another said: “If there’s ever been a better Agatha Christie adaptation I’ve never seen it.”

A third gushed: “To the cast, crew and all in the making of #WhyDidntTheyAskEvans It’s been beautiful, gorgeous and totally devine @hughlaurie your love of @agathachristie shines through. Thank you and bravo.”

But other viewers of the ITV drama series were not as impressed at the new adaptation of the classic tale.

One watcher fumed: “I don’t think that Agatha Christie (national treasure) would have used the ‘F’ word in her writing. Why on TV 2023?”

Another said: “Watched #WhyDidntTheyAskEvans Sad to say it’s very poorly written & directed. Low production values.”
